Denese Estep, Senior Consultant and Clinical Leader
Denese Estep has been a leader in the rehabilitation field
for 25 years. Her experience as a therapist, manager,
business owner and program developer with regional
responsibilities for a national rehab company provided
Denese with a wide range of skills. Her ability to spot
emerging trends and to create innovative solutions is well
known throughout the rehab industry. Denese continues
work in patient care as an occupational therapist three
days a month. This work keeps her well grounded in the
realities of what works in the front line of patient care.
Denese’s leadership expertise is recognized well beyond the provider industry. Fiscal intermediaries seek her advisory services when trying to develop guidelines (local coverage determination policies) and to resolve conflicts between provider documentation and interpretation by the intermediaries.
What is most telling about Denese, however, is her leadership skill. Whether it is the start up of a new rehab program, or a turn around of an existing program, Denese has the ability to create successful outcomes while building staff morale and physician cooperation. She has started up 11 inpatient rehabilitation programs, without ever having received a citation from either CMS or the State reviewers. Additionally, Denese prepared 18 providers for CARF accreditation in less than 11 months. The results were perfect scores and three year accreditation.
Her leadership skills were evident early in her professional career. Denese and a colleague drafted the occupational practice standards for the State of Arkansas. These standards formed the basis for the occupational practice act still in existence over 20 years later. Denese is recognized as the leader who brought occupational therapy to the State of Arkansas.
Denese is known for outstanding teaching skills. She is sought out as a national speaker by hospital associations throughout the country. Denese has shared her wisdom with rehab providers eager to embrace her ideas. Her wisdom is also shared with students. Denese served as Adjunct Professor for Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Central Arkansas for 15 years.
